What is your family’s favorite Sunday recipe? For my family, it’s my crockpot roast. It is one of my children’s most favorite dinners, but it’s easy to do on Sundays. Why? Because it’s an easy meal! I can dump vegetables in with the meat, or I can have them prepared separately ahead of time. It’s just too easy! So it’s a beloved favorite around here.

How Simple is this Crockpot Roast?

It’s ridiculously simple. All you need is a roast from any local grocery store (I like the chuck roasts, but I buy whatever is on sale), a large can of cream of mushroom soup, and a brown gravy mixture packet. That’s it! Well, besides some Seasoning Salt (you all know that I use that stuff on EVERYTHING).

How Long Do I Cook It?

If you are going to leave it in the crockpot all day, I would put it on the “low” setting and let it cook for 6-7 hours (depending on the size of the roast). If you are needing it sooner, put it on the “high” setting, and let it cook for 4-5 hours.

You will know the roast is finished when you can take a fork and pull it apart. That’s what makes it so delicious. If it falls apart in your mouth while you eat it, you know you’ve made an awesome family dinner.

If you use Crockpot Liners, which I highly recommend, then you also have an easy cleanup on your hands too!

What Side Dishes Should I Serve with the Crockpot Roast?

My family’s favorite side dishes are mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, and dinner rolls. They always want the mashed potatoes so they can put the gravy over them, and the dinner rolls are good to “sop” up the gravy. It’s a southern thing 😉 I’ve also served fried apples on the side, and those paired well too. I know many people serve macaroni and cheese with the mashed potatoes and green beans.
